Conjugacy Classes of Centralizers in G2

Abstract

Let k be a perfect fi eld of characteristic not 2. Let G be an algebraic group of type G_2 defi ned over k. In this paper we calculate centralizers of elements in anisotropic G_2. Using this, we show explicitly that there are six z-classes (conjugacy classes of centralizers) in the compact real form of G_2.
